Building Your Dream Home: What to Expect Throughout the Process

February 21, 2025

At Weston Dean Custom Homes, we believe building a custom home in the Texas Hill Country should be an exciting and rewarding experience. Our team is dedicated to guiding you through every step of the journey, ensuring your home reflects your vision, lifestyle and needs. From the initial design phase to the final walkthrough, our meticulous process ensures a seamless and transparent experience, so read on to see everything you can expect when working with our team on your new home in the Texas Hill Country.

Lot & Vision Meeting: Laying the Groundwork

The journey begins with a thorough understanding of your homesite. During your Lot Meeting, our team will meet with you on-site to discuss all of the unique features of your chosen location, such as the views, sun positioning and the natural topography, which play a huge role in your home’s placement. We’ll also discuss your ideas, inspirations and lifestyle preferences in the Vision & Concept phase. Whether you bring sketches, photos or a general wish list, our experts will guide you through a design questionnaire to better understand your needs while also discussing the overall project budget.

The Design Process: Shaping Your Dream Home

Once we’ve gathered all necessary details, the design process can officially begin. Whether starting from scratch or refining an existing plan, our goal is to create a home that perfectly aligns with your lifestyle. If you have the time, touring a few model homes or viewing as many floor plan options as possible can help you refine your preferences.

Plan Revisions: Fine-Tuning the Details

Every great home starts a thoughtful plan, and our Plan Revisions phase allows for adjustments to ensure that the final design reflects both form and function. We work closely with you throughout this part of the process and make modifications that enhance livability and aesthetic appeal.

Design Selections: Personalizing Your Home

As your home starts to take shape on paper, we are then able to dive into the selection process. Through our Finishes Questionnaire meeting, our award-winning interior design team helps you curate the perfect materials, colors and finishes. Selections are made for exterior materials and colors, interior finishes such as cabinetry and flooring and final details like lighting and fixtures.

Cost Proposal: Transparent Pricing

When it comes to pricing out your new home in the Texas Hill Country, we believe in complete transparency. Our industry-leading cost and calculation tool provides a detailed breakdown of every aspect of your home, ensuring that you have a clear understanding of the pricing expectations before construction begins.

Contracts & Final Plans: Preparing for Construction

With all of the details finalized, we will then give you the Contract & Final Plans—officially launching the construction phase. Our efficient process is designed to deliver your custom home in approximately 7 to 9 months, and we’ll always work to minimize any delays through our careful pre-construction planning.

Financing & Groundbreaking

To begin construction, you’ll work with a preferred lender to secure a construction interim loan. Once financing is in place, we’ll break ground, preparing your lot for foundation work and conducting any necessary final site preparations.

Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance

Throughout construction, we prioritize clear and consistent communication, and we’ll set up regular meetings with you to provide updates, answer questions and ensure you are always informed about the progress of your home. To maintain our commitment to excellence, we also bring in third-party inspectors to verify that every detail meets the highest standards. Should you choose to hire your own inspector, we simply ask that you coordinate with us to ensure construction is at the appropriate phase for review.

Final Orientation & Move-In

As completion nears, we conduct a Final Orientation seven days before move-in. This final walkthrough allows us to address any touch-ups and ensures that every element of your contract has been fulfilled. Once you sign off, your home is officially ready for move-in.
